Two main types：
Rigid Dummy Bar : It is composed of one or more rigid rods hinged together. The structure is relatively simple, but the length is fixed, and it has poor adaptability to different cross-sectional specifications. It is now less used in the construction of new rectangular billet, slab billet and round billet continuous casting production lines (it is more suitable for small square billet production lines).
Chain-type (flexible) guide rod: It is composed of many chain links connected through pins, forming a flexible chain. Its advantages are very prominent. It has good flexibility and can smoothly pass through the bending and straightening sections of the arc-shaped continuous casting machine. It has strong adaptability. By increasing or decreasing the number of chain links, it can conveniently adapt to different metallurgical lengths, that is, different drawing speeds and billet specifications. It is convenient to store and can be coiled or folded for storage in a smaller space. Maintenance is relatively easy, and damaged chain links can be replaced separately.
